Champions League Top 16 Draw And What To Expect

The champions league top 16 draw will take place on the 11th of December 2017, after all the group-qualification matches have been completed. From the 8 groups (groups A-F), 16 teams will progress to the next knock-out round. These are the teams that finish first and second in each group.

16 teams will get knocked out of the tournament before the round of 16. 8 teams out of the 16 will progress to the Europa league. These will be the teams that finish third in the group. The team in last place from each group will get relegated from the competition altogether.

Expected qualified teams from each group are based on form, current standings in the Champions League, odds and pundit predictions.

The teams that will finish in third to join the UEFA Europa League include Dortmund, Porto, Napoli, Sevilla, Sporting, Roma, Celtic and CSKA Moscow. Benfica and Monaco should be among the first major teams that will be eliminated in the tournament.

Real Madrid will be favorites to win the Champions League again for the third time in a row. PSG are favorites too because of the squad they were able to assemble during the summer transfer window.
